The importance of local news has never been more apparent, but how to keep it alive, how to make it sustainable, how to cut through the noise? We must because it is so vital to community resilience and cohesion. Lissa Harris has dedicated her life to local journalism. She shares her own path as a journalist and activist, and points to new projects on the horizon at The River.

Lissa is a staff writer at The River, a digital news magazine that covers the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, which was launched by Chronogram. She focuses her reporting now on climate change and action. Lissa is also a volunteer firefighter. She was the founding editor of The Watershed Post, a site that covered local news in the rural Catskills from 2010 to 2017.
