We have a new venue in the region! The Local has opened in a chapel in the village of Saugerties, and Isabel Soffer joins us for this episode to talk about how this community center and performing venue came to be, and shares her journey into becoming an advocate for wildly international sounds while community-building in her hometown.

Isabel Soffer, based in Saugerties NY, has been at the forefront of international cultural programming and arts advocacy for three decades. She was instrumental in developing the American global live music scene and is known for her work as co-founder/co-director of the non-profit organization and festival globalFEST and for her pivotal years at World Music Institute. She has produced numerous Grammy-nominated recordings, and hundreds of tours, festivals, public events, and conferences specializing in global and American roots music and dance. Her newest project, The Local, created with Danny Melnick, is a new music venue and cultural center focused on fostering community and cultural understanding through extraordinary year-round music, dance, art and talks aimed at discovery.
