In celebration of her 91st birthday, we spend the hour in conversation with musician and activist Barbara Dane, covering a range of topics including music, motherhood, and capitalism. We hear a collection of songs from throughout her career, largely taken from the new Smithsonian Folkways 2-disc retrospective “Hot Jazz, Cool Blues, and Hard-Hitting Songs,” and we hear some music from the record label she co-founded in 1969, Paredon Records, now also released by Smithsonian Folkways.
