This week we're live at Bard College's Hannah Arendt Center for the Annual Fall Conference on the topic of Racism and Anti-Semitism. We spoke with conference presenters:
- Lewis R. Gordon, a professor and author who participated in a panel called "Little Rock: Arendt and Race," and who dropped by the broadcast with Shaniqua Bowden, host of the Nubian Cafe. We discussed his reflections on the conference and his thoughts on the conference topic.
- Robert Boyers discussed the subject of his just-released book The Tyranny of Virtue: Identity, the Academy, and the Hunt for Political Heresies, and restrictions on conversation in academia, the so-called culture war, and what might be called a surveillance society.
- Thomas Chatterton Williams, a Hannah Arendt Center fellow, contributing writer to the New York Times Magazine, and author of the forthcoming Self-Portrait in Black and White: Unlearning Race, which will be released on October 15th, discussed multi-culturalism and personal narratives around race.
- Marc Weitzmann, a journalist and author of Hate: The Rising Tide of Anti-Semitism in France (and What It Means to Us) discussed The Great Replacement theory and its origins in France, and a global Jewish conspiracy theory which informs white nationalism, populism, and anti-immigration in America and abroad.
- Throughout the show we talked about presentations by Eric Ward, Reverend Jacqui Lewis, John McWhorter, and Ibram X Kendi. See the list of all the conference presenters on the Hannah Arendt Center website here.
Today's music was curated by Nick Panken, host of Freedom Highway. Tune in to his show every Sunday from 7-8p.
