In January a California company leaked that it was eyeing three locations at the western edge of the Ashokan Reservoir to construct a pumped storage project using hydro power ... which would require a new dam 200-300 feet high and a 250-acre reservoir to create electricity to be delivered further south. Existing towns would be flooded, homes in one of three locales (Woodland Valley, Lanesville or Olive) bought, or seized, and razed. Sounds familiar? Even the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, which looks after the city's land in the Catskills, was surprised. The Green Radio Hour talks with Olive Town Supervisor Jim Sofranko for an update and recommendations on what you can do.
