Today in La Voz is a day for education and family. Still pandemic but with an accelerating vaccination rate, yesterday the CDC and FDA recommended putting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on hold (this does not affect the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines) and New York State has followed the advice. I spoke with Dr. Mark Tack, president of the Ulster County Vaccine Distribution Coalition, infectious disease expert, and President of Medicine at the Health Alliance, about this topic.
Beginning Monday, April 19, Kingston School District Elementary and Middle Schools will be open 5 days a week in person, 9:30 am-3pm, and High School Monday through Thursday in person, and on Fridays only remote, for students who prefer it. The option of fully remote teaching still remains until the end of the school year. I spoke with the school district's bilingual coordinators, Tatiana Tenorio and Claudia Jeri, about what the children who return to school are going to see next week.
In addition, in her column I am All Ears, the psychologist Celina Pipman invites us to regain optimism.
